An estimated 10,000 young teens turned out to hear a free live concert put on by Radio Disney on Tuesday at the Citadel Outlet Mall in the City of Commerce on Tuesday featuring teen sensation Justin Beiber.
The concert crowd was larger than expected, and caused a near riot as excited fans pushed to get closer to the performer who found himself cooling his heels for nearly an hour as organizers attempted to get the event under control.
Hordes of screaming teen and tween girls filled the outdoor venue. Traffic slowed to a crawl around the outlet where Christmas shoppers added to the commotion. Concert organizers threatened to close down the event if fans did not cooperate.
Beiber, just off a performance at the White House for President Barack Obama, did manage to get off a few numbers in before Fire Marshals and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called into to restore order, but were instead forced to shut down the concert down early after things got out of hand.
TMZ reported that a number of girls were injured, and received medical attention from EMT personnel and paramedics on the scene.
Monday’s concert was also part of a promotion that teamed up the Citadel with the Make A Wish Foundation. Two young girls received the dream of a lifetime, meeting Beiber in person prior to the start of the concert.Print This Post
