Vernon Worker’s Legs Amputated in Meat Packing Accident
By EGP News Report
(CNS)-A worker lost both legs when he fell into a multi-blade meat grinder at a meat packing plant in Vernon, authorities said June 20.
The industrial accident occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday at Jobbers Meat Packing Co. Inc. at Fruitland Avenue and Downey Road, Vernon Fire Battalion Chief Dave Lazar said.
Both of the worker’s legs were amputated above the knee by the machine, Lazar said. One leg was severed at the upper thigh, fire Capt. Dave Moore told KNX.
A coworker said the man was conscious when firefighters pulled him from the machine, which was dismantled in order to extricate the man, a Newsreel video crew reported.
Lazar said the man was injured by “some sort of meat grinding machine.”
The unidentified victim was reportedly in critical condition.
