Reward Offered for Information In Case of Abandoned Horse

By EGP News Report

Authorities offered a $2,500 reward to track down whoever abandoned a “severely emaciated” horse on a South Gate street, several hours before the mare had to be euthanized because of her deteriorated condition.

The horse was discovered lying in the gutter in the 5400 block of Gardendale Avenue, near Gardendale Park, said Officer Denise Woodside of the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority.

“When officers arrived, they found an incredibly emaciated horse lying motionless, but clearly alive,”

Woodside said. “An officer took an apple from her lunch, and fed it to the horse, and neighbors gave it hay and fresh water.”

A veterinarian and a horse trailer were sent to the scene, but it was determined that the mare’s condition required that she be euthanized at the scene, Woodside said.

A dark-color SUV pulling a light-colored horse trailer was seen in the area Woodside said.

A $2,500 reward was offered by The Humane Society of the United States for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for abandoning the horse.

Anyone with information can call SEAACA at (562) 803-3301, ext. 229.
