Hector Chacon Takes Over As MUSD Board President
By EGP News Report
Hector Chacon was named president of the Montebello Unified School District Board of Education by his colleagues at a Dec. 8 reorganization ceremony, replacing Edwin Chau who stepped down from the position.
Board Member Marcella Calderon, who was not present due to illness, was named vice president and Board Member Gerri Guzman took over as clerk. Board Member David Vela, who along with Calderon went unchallenged in a recent board election, also celebrated his reelection to the board.
Chacon told the audience he will “work to promote a high-quality learning environment that is standards-driven and rigorous for every stakeholder in the MUSD family.”
Both Chau and Chacon highlighted achievements in the past year including the opening of the new Applied Technology Center, a career training high school in Montebello.
The board members noted the district’s attendance remains at 95 percent and state test scores are continuing to improve. Chau added they have continued to provide student support services, including addressing bullying through a new anti-bullying policy, hunger through its War on Hunger food drive, and mental health through increasing mental health services for students.Print This Post
