Local Nonprofits To Receive Veterans Financial Literacy Grants

(CNS) –The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles awarded $200,000 in grants Tuesday, with much of the money aimed at financial literacy programs for U.S. military veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The money will be divided among 11 nonprofit groups that offer help in easing veterans back into mainstream society and promoting financial literacy for women, youth and immigrants.
Local recipients include Listos, meaning “ready” in Spanish, a program of Centro Latino for Literacy, got $20,000 to teach practical financing skills in Spanish to 100 adults; Moving Forward, a program of Girls & Gangs, received a $20,000 grant to teach life skills to girls in South and East Los Angeles after being locked up; Jovenes Inc., Financial Literacy Workshops, got $10,000 to provide classes on personal finance to 90 homeless people, 18-24 years old, aimed at getting them permanent housing.
