It’s Spring! Play Ball!

Batter up! Hundreds of youth league players high-fived their way across the field to celebrate the opening of their baseball season at Grant Rea Park in Montebello on Saturday morning.

With two bands playing, jumpers, and food stands, families from all around Montebello and surrounding communities were out in full force to celebrate the 60th anniversary year of the Montebello Baseball Association.

Later that afternoon, the players showed off the skills and techniques they’ve perfected in pre-season practice in a series of exhibition games. One parent and league board member said his children have the opportunity to meet many new people through playing with the league.

“They’ve made a lot of… friendships that might last a lifetime,” said Richard Castro.

This year the league consists of 600 players, from the youngest tee-ball level to the older Pony level signing up to play on 47 different teams.
