Man Gunned Down in El Sereno, Wife and Child Not Wounded

By City News Service

(CNS) – A makeshift memorial of candles and flowers stands on an El Sereno street where a man was gunned down as he sat in his parked car with his wife and 5-year-old daughter.

Damian Frausto, 41, a father of three from El Sereno, died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 7:25 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Borland Road, said coroner’s Chief Craig Harvey.

Frausto’s wife and child were not wounded, said Officer Norma Eisenman, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman.

The three were sitting in the car when a man about 35-40 years old walked up and opened fire with a shotgun, Eisenman said.

Police were unsure of a motive for the crime, but a homicide detective said it might have been a case of road rage.

The suspect drove past Frausto’s car, then circled back, got out of his car and fired two blasts, LAPD homicide Detective Joe Rios told CBS2.

Frausto yelled to his wife to get down as the gunman approached, likely saving her life, Rios said.

“I really believe in my heart that he saved his wife and child,” he said.
