Over 2,000 seniors from four Montebello Unified School District high schools graduated this week with more than 90 percent heading for higher education including four-year universities and community colleges, and some entering military service, according to the school district.
“I want to congratulate our graduating seniors and their families for their work toward this milestone,” Board of Education President Hector Chacon said in a press release. “Our seniors have represented our school, inside and outside the buildings, with class and style.”
Though Vail High School only presented 93 diplomas, due to 18 students attending their former high schools’ ceremonies, it happily celebrated matching last year’s graduating record with 111 graduates and a 95 percent student attendance rate. The other schools with filled-to-capacity ceremonies this week were Bell Gardens, Montebello and Schurr high schools.
MUSD graduates will be attending such prestigious universities as Brown, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Swarthmore, Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Grinell College, UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, and Whittier.
“Seeing our students graduate ready for college, career, and life is the defining moment for each of us in the Montebello Unified School District,” MUSD Superintendent Robert Henke said in a press release.
