Dietitian Leads Healthy Eating Grocery Store Tour

By EGP News Report

White Memorial Medical Center’s bilingual dietitian, Ruth Pupo, took a group of residents last week on a tour of a local Food4Less grocery store to teach them how to make smart decisions about the food they consume, starting with how to read the package labels of the foods they buy. She explained the difference between sodium and salt, and pointed out that some low-calorie foods may be high in sodium. She gave them tips on how to use the information as a guide to reducing fats and sodium. She also explained the merits of consuming more antioxidants and fiber, and leaving behind a sedentary lifestyle. The American Heart Association and the White Memorial Medical Center sponsored the nutrition tour. ( Photo by Tibor Deme)
