Oil Company Pleads Guilty in Montebello Spill Case

By EGP News Report

Oil and gas company Plains Exploration & Production has pled guilty to causing an oil spill and failing to report it.

Deputy District Attorney Dan Wright says the company in May agreed to pay $75,000, well over the maximum amount usually set for these types of crimes. Of that amount $50,000 will go toward the Department of Fish and Game’s oil response cleanup fund, $20,000 toward Los Angeles County’s testing lab, and $5,000 to pay for equipment used in the District Attorney’s office’s environmental investigations.

Last August, the district attorney’s environmental protection section filed eight misdemeanor charges against PXP, alleging that they failed to report oil spilled into the Rio Hondo River in 2010.
