Arrest Made in Commerce Fatal Hit-and-Run

The driver of the dark pickup truck wanted in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 19-year-old Bell Gardens man in Commerce was in custody Sunday morning, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Hugo Chavez, 21, of Bell, walked into the lobby of the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station and surrendered to deputies at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, said sheriff’ s Lt. Daniel Lopez in the East Los Angeles station. He was booked on a felony hit-and-run charge and is being held on $100,000 bail, according to L.A. County jail records.
