Mexican Independence Day Parade 2011: It was a day of people watching and festivities as excited crowds of spectators waved flags and shouted “Viva Mexico!” at performers, dancers, celebrities, local public officials and charros on horseback during the Mexican Independence Day parade in East Los Angeles last Saturday. The tradition, now in its 80th year, helped kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, which pays tribute to Hispanic contributions to the U.S. and that also includes independence day celebrations of several Central American countries.
