American Apparel Reports Sept. Sales Up

By City News Service

American Apparel, a Los Angeles-based manufacturer, distributor, and retailer of fashion apparel, today reported $51.1 million in net sales in September, a 10 percent increase compared to September 2011.

“We are again pleased with our retail store, direct to consumer and wholesale sales,” said American Apparel Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board Dov Charney.

“This past month aligned with our internal expectations, and we anticipate that both our retail and wholesale segments will experience continued sales momentum heading into October and the Holiday selling season.”

Charney said that if the current trajectory is sustained, “we believe that we will be in a position to refinance our existing high-cost debt and reduce our cost of capital.”

The company says it has some 10,000 employees and operates 251 retail stores in 20 countries.
