Monterey Park Police Seek Public’s Help in Killing of Teen

By City News Service

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives sought the public’s help Thursday in locating a suspect who shot and killed a Montebello teenager.

Detectives held a press conference Thursday morning at the sheriff’s headquarters building in Monterey Park to distribute surveillance video of the suspect wanted in the murder of 19-year-old Kenneth Deras, according to Nicole Nishida of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

Deras went to a convenience store at 10:30 p.m. on August 18 in the 700 block of West Washington Boulevard, Nishida said.

As Deras left the store, he was shot by the suspect who was apparently waiting for the victim outside with a gun, according to Nishida.

The suspect then fled, she said.

“He ran southbound on South Montebello Boulevard,” Nishida said. “He entered a black vehicle and drove away.”

Anyone with information about the suspect was urged to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500, or Crimestoppers at (800)222-TIPS. All tips can be made anonymously.
