Los Angeles Police Department detectives have released surveillance footage of a suspected shoplifter who waved a knife at employees at the Sears department store on Olympic Boulevard in Boyle Heights.
The incident, which occurred Nov. 13 at about 1:30 p.m., started out as an attempted shoplifting, but escalated when the man brandished a 6-inch knife and threatened store employees who followed him into the parking lot as he tried to make off with shoes and clothing he had not paid for, according to police.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, between the ages of 18 and 20, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He has “LA” tattooed on the top of his right hand and was wearing a dark-colored jacket and black baseball cap during the crime.
