Mark Keppel Among Top Finshers in Academic Decathlon

Beverly Hills High School was the winner of the Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon, earning 53,990.3 points out of a possible 60,000.

Mark Keppel High School in the Alhambra Unified School District came in fourth (44,327), placing  behind West (45,771.4) and Burbank (45,635), to earn one of the County’s 6 wild card spots in the California Academic Decathlon, which will be held March 14-17 in Sacramento. Also earning spots are El Rancho (43,332.5); Redondo Union (43,053.8); and South (41,654.7).

The theme of this year’s competition was Russia. Nearly 500 students from 52 teams competed in the speech, interview and essay categories and took tests in art, economics, language and literature, mathematics, music and school science.

The competition concluded Feb. 2 at USC with the Super Quiz.

    I’d like to note that Mark Keppel High School is part of the Alhambra Unified School District, not the Montebello Unified School District.
