Thieves Targeting Cars at Daycare Sites, Warn Monterey Park Police

Vehicles parked at daycare facilities and preschools are being targeted by burglars who have smashed car windows and made off with purses and other personal items, Monterey Park police said on Monday.
Resident were warned not to leave any personal property in their vehicles, even for a short period of time, when dropping a child off at school or daycare. According to police, the burglaries occurred within a five-minute time frame and the property taken was left in plain sight in the victim vehicles. Shortly after the burglaries, credit cards belonging to victims were used to purchase gas, food, and various merchandise on the internet.
Police recently arrested Tamara Rios, 20, of West Covina, for alleged burglary and forgery in connection with a vehicle burglary that occurred in the 300 block of N. Alhambra Ave. Two additional suspects are wanted in connection with that crime.
The suspect vehicle, a silver 1999 Dodge Durango, was recently impounded and several designer brand purses and wallets were located in the vehicle.
