A joint investigation targeting criminal street gangs in the south Montebello area resulted in arrests and the seizure of firearms, authorities said today.

Among the agencies involved in the investigation, which was dubbed “Operation Sudden Impact,” were the Montebello Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said ATF spokesman
Christian Hoffman.

Also involved in the investigation were the U.S. Attorney’s office and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Authorities are expected to release details of the operation later today at a news conference at Montebello police headquarters.

Officials say they have arrested seven reputed Montebello-area gang members allegedly involved in at least half a dozen murders that took place during a 2007 turf war.

Suspects face a variety of charges, including murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to deal drugs and robbery.

A large quantity of methamphetamine and dozens of weapons, including some fully automatic assault weapons were seized during the raid, according to police.
