Three students from Vernon Elementary School were recognized at this week’s meeting of the Vernon City Council for essays they wrote on being drug-free.
Vernon Police officer Alexy Escobedo, who teaches the 10-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) curriculum intended to teach kids how to avoid drugs and alcohol, chose the essay contest winners.
The first place winner was Nathalie Medinilla. Her prize was four tickets to Disneyland, $100 in Disney Dollars and free parking at the theme park. Runner-ups Desiree Granados and Janeth Diaz each received a $100 Target gift card.
