1-3pm—Air Resource Board, ARB, Public Workshop on preliminary recommendations for awarding $150 million in Proposition 1B: Goods Movement Emission Reduction Program funds. Friday, July 12

8pm—Friday Night Flicks: Free Outdoor Movies at Pershing Square in downtown L.A. – “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (PG). Movies projected on a 40ft x 20ft screen. Bring lawn chairs/blankets for sitting. Bring a picnic or purchase food from vendors on site. Repeats Fridays through Sept. 27: Some films not appropriate for children, so check ratings. 9am-3pm—Hermon Neighborhood Wide Yard Sale at the Hermon Church, 5710 Monterey.  Drop off donations day of sale 7-9am. There is also a pancake breakfast, cost $4.50 per person. Proceeds go toward creating a non-profit for the Hermon community, to help secure grants to fund projects and events in Hermon.

 

Sunday, July 14

1-4pm—Councilman Gil Cedillo Presents “A Taste of the 1st,” community swearing-in and party to “celebrate the diversity of our district.” Open to the public, event includes free samplings of food from restaurants in 1st City Council District; a show by ‘Tierra’ and ‘Mongorama’ at nearby MacArthur Park’s Levitt Pavilion (2230 W 6th St). 8am-6pm—Weingart East Los Angeles Inaugural Fitness Expo at the Weingart YMCA. 11am-4pm—Belvedere Skate Park Skateboard Competition- Skateboarders from seven LA County areas – East LA, Montebello, Boyle Heights, Carson, Compton, Downey & Huntington Park — to compete in “Cross-town Showdown.” East Los Angeles won the contest in 2012, earning them the honor of hosting the event this year. Mark Your Calendar for the Summer SR 710 North Study All Communities Convening Information Sessions, July 18, 20, & 23rd, being hosted by Metro and Caltrans in July. Learn about five transit options being explored that aim to reduce congestion and improve mobility in the San Gabriel Valley, East/Northeast Los Angeles, and the region. The first of three meeting will take place in E Sereno on July 18, from 6 to 8pm at the Los Angeles Presbyterian Church, 2241 N Eastern Ave. Additional meetings will be held July 20 at Blair High School, 1201 S. Town Hall Meeting on July 25 hosted by State Sen. Kevin de León & the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council a the PUENTE Learning Center. Issues to be discussed include public safety, environment, education and immigration. The meeting will take place at 6pm. There will also be a demonstration performance by The LA Opera artists and members of The Zarzuela Project, a collaboration of The Mariachi Conservatory and LA Opera. Celebrate Bell Gardens! The City of Bell Gardens and the Lions Club of Bell Gardens will co-host Bell Gardens’ 52nd Anniversary Celebration “Celebrate Bell Gardens”. The four day celebration will take place  Thursday, August 1st through Sunday, August 4th at Bell Gardens Veterams Park. The event will include carnival rides games, a salsa preparation contest, pancake breakfast, and the Miss Bell Gardens Mayor’s reception.
