An investigation was underway into the shooting Monday in Boyle Heights that left a 43-year-old man dead. Police suspect the shooting was gang-related.
The victim pulled up in front of his residence in the 2000 block of Sheridan Street around 10:40 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Karen Stanwix of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Station.
A male suspect walked up to him, started a conversation that became heated and then opened fire with a handgun, striking the victim three times, she said.
The man was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m., Stanwix said, adding he is believed to have been a gang member.
The suspect was described only as a male wearing dark clothing, Stanwix said.
In a separate incident on Sunday, a man in his mid-20s was shot in the right leg outside his Boyle Heights home, a police lieutenant said.
The shooting occurred at 3:35 a.m. near City View Avenue and State Street, said Lt. Carlos Solano of the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Station.
The victim told police he was taking out the trash when three men walked up and shot him in the leg, Solano said.
The victim was a possible gang member who did not cooperate any further with police, the lieutenant said.
He was transported to USC Medical Center for treatment, Solano said.
