The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), using a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s California Office of Traffic Safety, will realize several checkpoints and saturation patrols this weekend.
One of the communities affected will be Boyle Heights with a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint set to start tonight, Friday Aug. 2, from 8pm to 2a.m. tomorrow, Saturday Aug. 3. The check point at Soto and East 1st Street, however, as other announced check points is subject to change or cancelation.
The other checkpoints tonight are scheduled for Lankershim Boulevard at Vanowen Street, in North Hollywood and Roscoe Boulevard at Coldwater Canyon Avenue, in Sun Valley.
Offiers will be checking passing drivers for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, they will also be checking for proper licensing. Impaired drivers can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, according to the press release.
The public is reminded to call 9-1-1 if they see a drunk driver.
