The 67th Annual East Los Angeles Mexican Independence Day Parade is this Sunday, Sept. 8. Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti is the parade Grand Marshal.

The parade theme this year is “For immigration reform and a better future” (‘Por Una Reforma Migratoria y Un Futuro Mejor’), highlighting an important issue for the Mexican immigrant community and the country, according to the press release.
The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at Mednick and E. Cesar Chavez Blvd., travels down E. Cesar Chavez, ending at Gage Ave. Hot weather is expected, parade attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly, use sunscreen and keep hydrated.
Post-parade activities will follow at Belvedere Park, located at Mednik and First. Enjoy live music, entertainment, attractions, food vendors, merchandise for sale, interactive displays and other family friendly activities.
Jazmine López is this year’s “Srta Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas 2013-2014” (Miss Mexican Heritage Celebrations 2013-2014).
The parade honorary Godfather is soap opera star (telenovela) David Zepeda, and honorary godmothers are soap opera starts Mayrin Villanueva and Altair Jarbo, according to the press release.
Musical guests are Regional Mexican singer-songwriter Mariano Barba, Latin Pop sensation Frankie J and iconic grupero romantic group Los Caminantes and the sonic rhythms of Tropical music will be headlined by Sonora Tropicana, Tropical Mar Azul de Juan Concurra.
Red Bull, one of the parade sponsors, is scheduled to give a “surprise presentation.”
The parade will be partially broadcast live by ABC7, and recorded by Univision for broadcast later that day. The parade is organized by the Comité Mexicano Cívico Patriótico, based in Huntington Park.
