Veterans Honored at ELAC

11th Airborne Division Veterans George C. Silva, right, and Marvin M. Smith were among the invited guests who attended the East Los Angeles College Veterans Day Celebration Wednesday. Silva, who grew up in Boyle Heights, attended ELAC after graduating from Roosevelt High School. Smith is originally from Atlanta and now resides in Santa Monica. The program included speeches by ELAC Professors Daniel Judge and Bunnarith Chhun, a Cambodian refugee, were among the speakers. .S. Rep. Lucile Roybal-Allard, D-East Los Angeles, Monterey Park Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian and Mirtha Villarreal-Younger, state deputy secretary of minority veterans affairs at California Department of Veteran Affairs, were among the dignitaries in attendance. Veterans Day, a legal holiday, will be observed nationally Nov. 11.
