Human skeletal remains were found Tuesday in Montebello by pipeline maintenance workers.

Police went to the 900 block of North Lincoln Avenue shortly after 4p.m. and confirmed the remains were human.

As the sun set, the Montebello Fire Department illuminated the area near the Whittier Narrows Dam.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were sent to assist in the investigation and attempt to determine the circumstances that led to the remains being found at the spot, according to Deputy Mark Pope of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

North Lincoln Avenue between San Gabriel Boulevard and La Merced was reopened Wednesday.
