7-pm—Opening Reception for “Picturing Mexico:  Alfredo Ramos Martinez in California” at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. This is the first comprehensive examination by a museum of the Mexican artist’s work produced in California between 1929 and 1946. With the US on the brink of a depression, much of his work from that period reveals both the country’s economic & cultural climate and his individual response to Mexico from Los Angeles. Explored through four sections — “L.A. Stories,” “Many Women,” “Religious Piety,” and “Forever Mexico” — the exhibition highlights the contributions of this remarkable in the narrative of early twentieth century art. Exhibit runs through May 4. Admission: Opening Reception $5/Free for PMCS members; Regular Days-adults $7, seniors & students $5, free for PMCA members &children under 12; free the first Friday of every month.
