Paper Recycling Plant Fire In Commerce

By City News Service

Fire broke out at a paper-recycling center in the city of Commerce last Sunday morning, authorities said. The fire was reported at 1:06 a.m. at the plant, 2800 Vail Avenue, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett. It was first reported outside the two-story building, Pickett said.

A news photographer on the scene said it appeared the fire extended into the building, but had not burned through the roof. Firefighters used foam to put out the blaze, the same kind used to put out petroleum fires, said Dispatch Supervisor Robert Diaz, pointing out the fire spread into the building. No injuries were reported.
