Boyle Heights Trucking Co Sued For Back Wages

A former driver for a Boyle Heights trucking company filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against the firm, alleging he and other employees are owed back wages due to violations of state labor laws.

Jose Munoz of El Monte filed the lawsuit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Dependable Highway Express Inc. If the complaint receives class certification, he wants unspecified damages on behalf of himself and other drivers who worked for the company for four years prior to the date of the judge’s ruling.

A DHE representative did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

According to the lawsuit, Munoz worked for the company from May 2011 until last month. He alleges he and other drivers were required to work more than five hours daily before being given a 30-minute rest break. They also were not regularly provided complete wage statements, did not get vacation pay until the end of the year and were not given all wages due immediately upon their departure from the firm, according to the complaint.
