Free Tax Preparation Help and Family Resource Fair Saturday at Cal State LA

If you are low-income and need assistance preparing your tax returns, a team of trained and certified volunteers will be at Cal State University, Los Angeles on Saturday to help you. For free.

The Cal State LA VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program, in partnership with the California State Board of Equalization (BOE) is hosting the one day community outreach event where individuals and families can get assistance preparing and filing their tax returns, as well as learn about a variety of other resources.

At the event, you can get  information about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and whether you qualify for the tax benefit. Individuals who are eligible may qualify for as much as $6,044 from the EITC.

At the  outreach event, participants can also receive financial literacy training, job preparation assistance, and information about food and nutrition services, low-cost and free medical services, and health screenings.

Taxpayers should bring proof of identification including social security cards, wage and earning statement(s) from employers, interest and dividend statements from banks, bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit, and a copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available, advises the BOE.

If you are unable to attend Saturday, the Cal State L.A. VITA program will conduct i free income-tax preparation sessions every Saturday through Apr. 12 to low- to moderate-income individuals ($50,000 or less).

VITA services for the 2014 tax season will take place on the third floor of Salazar Hall, room 343, on the Cal State L.A. campus: 5151 State University Dr. LA 90032. It will operate on a first-come, first-served basis from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Appointments are not necessary. You should bring the same items previously identified.
