Metrolink Train Kills Pedestrian in East L.A.

By City News Service

The Coroner’s Office has named the 24-year-old man who was struck and killed by a Metrolink train in East Los Angeles last weekend.

The pedestrian was identified as Los Angeles resident Ismael Viramontes, said Coroner’s Lt. David Smith.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Friday, said Lt. Mike Mendoza of the sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau.

Viramontes was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Mendoza said the crash happened in the area of 5150 State University Drive, but the Los Angeles city and county fire departments reported the location was west of that block, closer to the intersection of Whiteside Street and Bonnie Beach Place.
