Southern California Gas Co. reminded anyone with plans to dig to call 811 first to have underground utility lines marked.
“April is National Safe Digging Month,” Denise King of SoCalGas said Tuesday.
“Calling 811 … will help avoid possible injury or damage to hidden gas lines or service interruption.”
Anyone causing even minor damage to a pipeline was urged to call (800) 427-2200.
Last year, SoCalGas logged more than 2,400 “dig-ins” to its pipelines.
SoCalGas-owned pipelines typically extend from the gas main, in front or behind the home or business, to the gas meter.
Once all lines are marked, excavators should use only hand-digging tools within two feet of gas lines.
