Ray Gallego, left, and Ann Marie Straight, the wife of the late Richard Straight, cut the ribbon to mark the dedicating of Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary High School’s baseball field in memory of Straight, the school’s longtime coach. The newly-renovated facility was named Coach Richard Straight Field Saturday during a ceremony that included the team, former players, teachers, family and friends. Straight, who died March 29, 2013, was head coach at Cantwell from 1976 to 1990. The Vietnam veteran joined the faculty in 1973. Improvements to the facility include a new infield, irrigation system, backstop and batting cages. An engraved granite marker of tribute sits near the entrance to the field.
