Woman Shot in East L.A. by Suspect Involved in Deputy Involved Shooting
By City News Service
A man who shot and wounded a woman, then held authorities at bay on an East Los Angeles street for almost an hour and a half was killed in a deputy-involved shooting early Tuesday, authorities said.
The man was believed to have been responsible for the shooting of a woman in the 100 block of North Gage Avenue around 2:50 a.m., they said. The victim was hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
The names of the victim and suspect were not immediately released.
Broadcast footage showed the suspect holding a handgun as he gestured at deputies from between two parked cars on North Gage.
As the suspect began to move toward the house where the woman had been shot, members of the Sheriff’s SWAT team closed in, according to a news videographer at the scene. Four shots were then heard.
The Sheriff’s Department reported earlier this morning that the suspect was taken into custody at 4:15 a.m. but later said that the deputy-involved shooting occurred at that time.
Two children were seen being taken by deputies from a house in the area within minutes of the shots being fired, according to broadcast reports.
Sheriff’s Deputy Crystal Hernandez said the motive for shooting the woman was not known.
“We don’t understand the motivation, or the relationship and the reason why he did that,” she said.Print This Post
