The top 148 students from 74 schools in Los Angeles Council District 14 received “Adelante Awards” Saturday at the 11th annual presentation of the awards.

Hosted by Councilman Jose Huizar, the awards “recognize and encourage young students who are achieving academic excellence,” according to a press release announcing the awards.

“I think these awards are especially important for the elementary and middle school kids to see the success of their high school peers,” Huizar said in the release.

Administrators from participating elementary, middle and high schools selected the top boy and girl at the school to be honored, along with their parents, at a special banquet last weekend.
