Walmart and the Walmart Foundation awarded Plaza de Arte y Cultura and AltaMed Health Services grants to support a garden, promote healthy cooking and an obesity management program for Latinos as part of their $355,000 awards to Los Angeles County non-profits.

Plaza de Arte y Cultura received $75,000, which will be used to expand their Edible Teaching Garden and Culinary Arts Programs.

AltaMed received a $40,000 grant that will go towards fight childhood obesity.

“Walmart’s generous grant will help AltaMed provide the resources necessary for at-risk families to make better lifestyle choices,” said AltaMed director of obesity prevention Vilma Andari in a press release announcing the award.

Since the end of 2013 fiscal year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation has awarded more than $2.8 million to nonprofit organizations in LA County.
