Fresh Fruit Recall Issued

By EGP News

Whole peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots are being voluntarily recalled nationwide by the Wawona Packing Company, which fears that the fruit could potentially be contaminated.

The Cutler, California company believes fruit packaged between June 1 and July 12 could have been exposed to listeria monocytogenes, an organism that could cause fatal infections among children and the elderly. The organism is also known to cause miscarriages and still births in pregnant women. No illness has been reported and linked to the recall. The company reports that no other product is impacted.

The fruit was sold at Costco, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores. Consumers who might still have the product should return the fruit to the store where it was purchased.
