Annual Period to Appeal Property Tax Bills Underway

By EGP News

Los Angeles County taxpayers who want to challenge a property tax bill have until Dec. 1 to file an appeal, according to the state Board of Equalization.

Property owners who want to reduce their property tax bill can make an appointment with the county assessor’s office to discuss the assessment or appeal their bill, but according to the BOE, the appeals process is only open to those challenging the assessed value of their property as of Jan. 1.

There are different appeal periods for taxpayers challenging an assessment after a property was sold, underwent new construction, or was damaged in a natural disaster or other calamity.

“California taxpayers may reduce their property tax if they disagree with the local assessors’’ valuation of their property, and I recommend that they appeal their assessment decision,” said BOE For more information, visit the BOE’s website at
