Body Found on 10 Freeway

By City News Service

A man’s body was found on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Boyle Heights, prompting the closure of two lanes for more than three hours while an investigation was conducted, authorities said.

The body was discovered on Thursday west of Soto Street about 2:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported. The man, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His name was not immediately available.

According to NBC4, the fatally injured man had a Los Angeles County Jail identity bracelet on his wrist. A motorist called the CHP around 1:45 a.m., believing he had struck an animal on the right shoulder of the freeway, according to the station.

The two lanes were reopened shortly after 5 a.m., the CHP reported. The circumstances of the death were under investigation.
