A Los Angeles police officer shot an unidentified male who allegedly was carrying a shotgun in a Boyle Heights residential neighborhood, police said Sunday.
About 1:45 p.m., officers from the Hollenbeck Community Station responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 3200 block of East Sixth Street, Los Angeles Police Capt. Martin Baeza told NBC4.
The man reportedly was violent toward two people in his residence before stepping outside as two officers arrived, Baeza said.
When he saw the police, the man stepped back inside and returned with a shotgun pointed at the officers, the captain told NBC4.
“The officers feared for their lives and shot at the suspect,” Baeza said.
Multiple rounds were fired, but the unidentified male was struck only once and taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center in critical condition, he said.
Neither of the officers was injured.
An investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
