Motorcyclist Killed in Montebello Identified

By City News Service

The Coroner’s Office Sunday publicly named a 28-year-old motorcyclist who was killed in Montebello when another vehicle rear-ended his bike, sending it into a pole.

The crash was at about 4:45 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Bluff Road, according to Montebello police.

Jorge Antonio Lopez-Chavira, a resident of Whittier, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Coroner’s Investigator Betsy Magdaleno.

Both the motorcycle and the suspect vehicle were eastbound on Washington Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred, police said.

The suspect vehicle, described as a tan four-door of unknown make or model, was last seen heading east into Pico Rivera, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to contact Montebello police at (323) 887-1313.

It was the second fatal accident in Montebello in as many days.

A man was killed and the woman driving the car he was in was critically injured when the vehicle struck a tree in the 200 block of North Montebello Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, police reported.
