Woman Killed by Train Identified

By City News Service

The coroner’s office Sunday identified the woman fatally struck by a freight train in Montebello in what police believe to be a suicide.

She was Darlene Rodriguez, 62, who was listed as a transient, according to the coroner’s office.

Police believe that Rodriguez intentionally placed herself in the path of the train around 1:45 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Montebello and Olympic boulevards.

She died at the scene, police said.

The subsequent investigation prompted the closures of Montebello Boulevard, Greenwood Avenue, Maple Avenue and Vail Avenue between Olympic Boulevard and Mines Avenue, police said.

Some delays were reported on Metrolink’s Riverside Line because of “freight congestion” involving the incident, according to Metrolink.
