Man Arrested in Connection With Wife’s Death is Released From Jail

By City News Service

A former community college instructor arrested in connection with the death of his wife — who plunged to her death from a multi-story parking garage in Alhambra last week — was released Tuesday from jail.

Prosecutors declined to immediately file a case against Russell Errett, 56, and asked for further investigation, according to Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Errett was arrested last Thursday in connection with the death of his wife, Hui Lui, 29, of Alhambra.

Alhambra police went to 26 N. First St. shortly after 1 a.m. last Thursday after a caller “reported that his wife fell from the top level of the public parking structure,” Sgt. Steven Carr said.

Lui died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

Errett was arrested less than 5 1/2 hours later, and remained behind bars until he was released from custody at about 5:15 this morning, jail records show.

He worked for East Los Angeles College and retired in August 2014 as an adjunct instructor, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.
