Friday, July 24
Noon—Skateboard Deck Art Workshop at East Los Angeles Library sponsored by The Garage Board Shop. Learn techniques to create your own skateboard design and compete in the art contest to win prizes. 6:30pm – Marine Corps League Detachment Installation Dinner, the PFC Eugene A. Obregon (Medal of Honor Recipient) Marine Corps League Detachment will be installed as the first chapter at the American Legion – Eugene Obregon Post #804 in East Los Angeles. The installation dinner will take place at Stevens Steak House at 5332 Stevens Place in the City of Commerce, CA 90040. Cost is $22 per person. Tuesday, July 28
1-3pm and 530-730pm – Los Angeles River Project Update and Design Workshop. Residents are encouraged to participate in a workshop to discuss future federal projects on the LA River. The City has engaged the US Army Corps of Engineers to produce a study to evaluate project alternatives with the aim of developing a “Recommended Federal Project” which may be eligible for a future federal project. City of Bell Gardens Police Department Presents 2009 “National Night Out,” on August 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at John Anson Ford Park, 8000 Park Lane. The annual event will feature kids activities, food booths and games.

East Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce presents the 2nd Annual “The Taste of East L.A.” on July 31, from 4 to 11pm, featuring foods from a number of local restaurants.  Performances by the Soto Band, the Nation of Aztlan, the Garfield High School Drumline and the Eastside Productions (D.J. Albert) playing: rock en español, latin salsa, and much more. Also the Best Chile and Salsa Contest.
