7-11pm—Casino Night 2009 hosted by the L.A. County Hispanic Managers Association in support of non-profit Para Los Ninos. Casino Night will be at Steven’s Steak & Seafood House, 5332 E. Find out by attending the Blood and Bone Marrow Drive taking place on Saturday, Nov. 7 to find a match for 4-year-old Eddy Valenzuela (pictured) who is in need of a bone marrow transplant to save his life. The drive will beheld at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Blood Donor Center, 1st Floor: 4650 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles. Free childcare & parking validation. Refreshments will be served. 8am—“Great Hermon Clean Up” and Bulky Item Drop Off event. Hermon “Clean Team” meets at Mika Color’s parking lot, 6000 Monterey Road (at Ave. 60). to clean up the town until 9:30 am Bulky Item Drop Off from 9 am to 3pm (or until containers are full) in Mika’s parking lot. Drop off unwanted furniture, lumber, and almost anything that won’t fit in your trash barrel except oil or paint, electronics and car parts, batteries or tires. Most of those may be taken every Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 3pm to the S.A.F.E. Center, 4600 Colorado Blvd. in L.A.
9:30am-4pm—“Breaking the Silence: Black and Latina Women Finding Ways to Take Care of Ourselves in Our Relationships with Men:” a free community health conference at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science’s Keck Auditorium in South Los Angeles. Workshop and panel discussions on the role culture and gender play in choices made. Discuss individual decisions about sex, drug use and partner selection. An onsite mobile testing unit will offer free testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Free childcare, raffle prizes, and informational materials will be provided. 11am—The Northeast Los Angeles Veterans Day Observance and Parade. Event starts at 11am at Eagle Rock City Hall with solemn ceremony to honor veterans. The parade kicks off at 1pm from the corner of York and Eagle Rock boulevards. Observance concludes with live entertainment at the corner of Merton and Caspar.
