Commerce Casino’s L.A. Poker Classic Makes History
By EGP News Services
Lady luck was at the L.A. Poker Classic’s first event at Commerce Casino, the world’s largest poker casino. Known for providing poker players small buy-ins with large prize pool guarantees, the Commerce Casino made history with 5,874 people attending the tournament’s first event.
Winner Darrell Cain, a Sacramento native, was done playing and was cashing in when he was called back to the table where he, Cain, had forgotten eight green chips. He went on to win $363,936.
“Man, the good lord was looking over me,” says Cain about his comeback win, “I’m just elated.” Cain plans on sharing his winnings with his father who was the one who taught him to play the game. “That’s just the way we do it,” he says about splitting the money, “We are a team at playing poker.”
LAPC Tournament Director Matt Savage applauded Cain’s attitude and congratulated him on his victory. “Darrell Cain’s win shows that it doesn’t take a miracle to win hundreds of thousands of dollars at Commerce Casino’s LAPC,” Savage said, “it just takes staying in the game!”
Eight other players will be sharing the prize money of $1 million, the lowest being $21,070, won by Charlie Ng from Camarillo, CA.
The Commerce Casino LAPC will continue on with 50 more events, through March 4. With an estimated $20 million total prize pool, this is the largest amount ever put up by Commerce Casino.
