Man Who Claimed to be Ex Mexican President’s Brother Charged in Scams

By EGP News Service

A man who falsely claimed to be a brother of former Mexican President Vicente Fox pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he stole more than $600,000 in several investment scams.

Alfredo Trujillo Fox, 66, faces nearly four dozen felony counts, including grand theft, unqualified sale of securities, misrepresentation of sales of securities and tax evasion.

Fox was arrested Saturday in connection with the 47-count criminal complaint, which was filed Jan 28.

The District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation in June 2008 into allegations that Fox — who was unlicensed — offered bogus investment opportunities between March 2006 and August 2007.

Fox —who authorities said is not related to the former Mexican president — remains jailed on $1 million bail pending his next court appearance Feb. 17.

If convicted, he faces more than 27 years in state prison, prosecutors said.
