Two For Two: School Beats Fundraising Goal
By EGP News Services
For the second year running, Sycamore Grove Christian Elementary School in Highland Park has participated in the “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society find a cure for blood cancers by collecting “spare change.”
The school exceeded last year’s grand total by a significant margin, and they did with fewer students.
Last year, underestimating what the 70 students at the small school could accomplish, and with only a classroom pizza party as their prize motivator, students at Sycamore Grove raised $3,885. Buntich Pacific Joint Venture, and their partner Cal Terrasas, said they would match the student’s donations, which resulted in a grand total of $7,710 and a pizza party for the entire school.

Students at Sycamore Grove Christian beat their own record, raising thousands to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
This year, with only 60 students in grades K-8, Sycamore Grove students raised $6,553 on their own. Buntich Pacific offered to match their money up to $2,500 this year, giving the students a grand fundraising total of $9,053.
Since 1994, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has brought the “Pennies for Patients” into schools nationwide, according to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society School & Youth Programs website. As stated in their mission statement, their goal is to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, as well as improve their patient’s quality of life.
