Denise Cabral was crowned during the rock ’n roll themed event attended by local residents and members of the business community. Four princesses were also named to complete the 2010 Court.
But a crown wasn’t the only thing given to Cabral; she also received a check for $500 to go toward her education. 1st Princess Candace Rojas received $200 and the remaining three princesses; Estrella Lopez, Sandy Ramos and Stephanie Martinez each received $100 for being crowned 2nd, 3rd and 4th princesses respectively
Paul Gonzalez, Olympic Gold Medalist in the 1984 Olympic games; Alida Carmona, one of the first Hispanic ballerinas to achieve national notoriety and Rachel Law, former Miss Huntington Beach (1998) and a teacher at Long Beach Poly-Pal High School were judges for the night.
This year, fourteen young women competed for the title of Miss Bell Gardens. Most say they participate because of the professional networking, public speaking and interviewing skills they gain in the time leading up to the pageant. As part of their pageant preparation, they work on making contacts with city businesses so they can further their scholastic and professional careers, as well as learn about the community and how to be a positive representation of its citizens.
To participate in the pageant, girls must be between the ages of 16 and 21 and residents of Bell Gardens.
