Alameda Corridor-East Adopts ‘Local Hire’ Policy

Thirty percent of workers on future construction projects for the Alameda Corridor-East must be residents of Los Angeles County under a new “Local Hire” policy adopted this week by the agency’s board.

The policy applies to ACEW projects over $2.5 million in contract value, according to Sup. Hilda Solis, who in June introduced a motion to require the agency to use more local workers.

“I am pleased that ACE Construction Authority has approved this new Local Hire policy and ensuring that we keep good-paying jobs right here at home,” Solis said in statement. “With the implementation of Measure M and other transit projects, we must do what we can to ensure that local dollars are spent locally, and that our communities receive the benefits of these projects from the start. Today’s action will help ensure local jobs for years to come.”

Under the policy, contractors must guarantee that at least 8% of jobs go to San Gabriel Valley residents, according to Solis, who represents the area.

Prime contractors will be required to make good faith efforts to reach these stated goals, the supervisor said in written statement.
