A man described by family members as a paranoid/schizophrenic was shot to death Tuesday while walking along a street in El Sereno.

The man, identified by relatives as 27-year-old Ramon Barrientos, was shot around 1:45 a.m. in the 5200 block of East Ithaca Avenue, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Karen Stanwix.

Police said he was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

A caller told police of hearing 10 gunshots and a vehicle leaving the scene, Stanwix said.

Investigators at the scene said witnesses heard multiple weapons being fired, and saw a light gray truck being driven away from the scene.

“I was getting ready to do to work and got a message from my cousin (asking) me if I had heard what happened to my brother,” Aurelio Barrientos told NBC4. “I called him and he said that he was murdered.”

Barrientos said his brother was not one to seek out trouble, telling the station, “You left him alone, he minded his own business.”

“Nobody deserves to be killed whatsoever, good or bad,” his sister, Alina Bahena said. “Nobody deserves that. It is just so heartbreaking.”

She said she does not wish any ill will on the person or people who killed her brother.

“Only God knows, and he will determine what will happen to them,” she told the station. “But I mean, I don’t wish any bad for that person.”

Aurelio Barrientos said he was “happy he’s in a better place now.”
